ITINERARY:
The programme starts at the very end of Stara Novalja, near the former ferry port, and continues along a macadam path towards the north-western side of the island of Pag and the cove of Svetojanj, with its 6th century Byzantine fortress which attests to the strategic importance of the area during the Eastern Roman Empire. The fortress served to control the safety of sailing in the Podvelebit Channel. It takes about an hour of hiking to get to the fortress, but it is well worth while once you see the magnificent view of the Velebit Mountain and its Channel.
