Pag Island

The island of Pag is a North Dalmatian island. It is the most indented Adriatic island with the longest coast. The island abounds with natural beauties. It has a Mediterranean climate with long sunny periods. Small pebbles and sand scattered by the crystal clear sea create numerous beaches of unique beauty. The Pag Bay cuts deeply into the island. It abounds in shells. Its sandy and pebbled beaches line a shore like pearls glittering in the clear sea and make the most luxurious necklace of the Adriatic. It opens near the town of Pag and its biggest and most beautiful jewel is the Zrće Beach in the vicinity of Novalja.

The island of Pag abounds with different flavours. It is the island of numerous varieties of thousand-year-old olive trees and the area of Lun has been declared a botanical reserve considered to be a unique phenomenon in the world. A drop of the Lun olive oil is a drop of health. Pag is widely known for its unique Pag Cheese that compares favorably with the world’s most famous cheeses. Its rich and strong taste is a result of the Pag rocks and salt, medicinal herbs and traditional care of the island. Pag is the island of aromatic herbs and tasty drops of Pag wines.

You can experience the olderness of the island by visiting the Old Town and surrounding areas of the town Pag from the Neolitic period, the sunken town of Cissa and Talijanova buža (the Italian’s hole), the ancient hand-dug aqueduct connecting Caska and Novalja. Your experience of the island will be completed by valuable archeological sites from the Early Stone Age and the Early Bronze Age, Illyric period, period of the Roman Empire and Slavic settlement.

The island has had a rich folk art ever since the ancient times. The old wheel dance is performed in exceptionally rich folk costumes decorated with Pag lace. Barren hills, covered in places with macchia, immortelle and sage, yield special charm and sense of mistery. Pag, thus, provides its visitors various experiences and excitements, but also a quiet holiday in a peaceful atmosphere of picturesque thousand-year-old olive trees, holm oak and black pine trees.
