Activity Description
The program begins in Novalja with a gathering, followed by transportation by tourist bus accompanied by a guide to Krka National Park. Krka is distinguished by travertine, a natural phenomenon formed by the deposition of limestone from the water, creating travertine barriers over which magnificent waterfalls cascade. Skradinski buk is the most famous and most visited waterfall on the Krka River, thanks to its impressive flow over seventeen travertine steps.
Entry to Krka National Park is through the Lozovac entrance. From there, the bus descends to the start of the circular walking trail along the lower course of the Krka River, which is 1900 meters long. During the roughly one-hour tour of Skradinski buk, visitors cross waterfalls via numerous wooden bridges. The tour includes learning about the rich cultural and historical heritage, as well as information from educational boards that provide details about Krka’s natural values and endemic species. The trail features rest areas and viewpoints where you can pause and soak in the beauty of the landscape. The “Imperial Viewpoint” is a must-see spot offering a unique view of Krka.
The tour continues towards the remains of the former Krka hydroelectric power plant from 1895, one of the first alternating current power plants in the world, and the first in the world to illuminate an entire city — the city of Šibenik. The path also leads to the Church of St. Nicholas and through an ethno village where you can see old mills used to demonstrate traditional crafts and the former life of millers.
At Skradinski buk, free time is planned for lunch and rest, after which the group returns to the beginning of the walking trail. The excursion concludes with the return to Novalja.
